What a Secrets Tides Wedding Day Timeline Actually Looks Like
Every couple planning a destination wedding asks the same quiet question: what will the day actually feel like, hour by hour?
This is the schedule we build most Secrets Tides weddings around. We have photographed and filmed destination weddings in Punta Cana for more than 15 years, and the same pattern keeps working: protect the light, protect the ceremony, and leave room for the evening to unfold. To show you how it looks in real life, the photos below come from Sydney and Mike's May 1, 2026 ceremony and reception on the beach at Secrets Tides.
Why Build the Day Around Sunset
Sunset is the anchor of every good beach wedding timeline. Where it falls changes through the year, from about 6:00 PM in December to about 7:30 PM in June, so your timeline shifts with your date. The sample schedule below is built around a 6:00 PM sunset. If you marry in late spring or summer, slide the evening later and keep the same spacing.

Before the Ceremony: What to Plan
Hair, Makeup and Getting Ready
Start hair and makeup in the late morning, bride first, so the afternoon stays calm. Getting-ready coverage is optional. Some couples want the dress, rings and small details photographed, and others begin at the ceremony, as Sydney and Mike did. Either way, the rest of the timeline holds.
First Look or No First Look
A first look gives you private time together and frees up the golden hour after the ceremony. It is entirely your choice. If you are deciding, read: https://wbastudio.com/blog/should-you-do-a-first-look
Seating Guests
Guests should be seated about 20 minutes before the ceremony. The groom and officiant take their places, and the processional is ready to begin.
How It Looked at Sydney and Mike's Wedding
The Ceremony
Sydney walked the shell-lined aisle between her father and mother toward Mike, who waited under a white draped arch in a cream suit. The officiant used a microphone, so every guest heard the vows over the ocean. Then came the rings, a dipped kiss, and Mike carrying Sydney back up the aisle.

Family and Group Photos
Right after the ceremony, while everyone is dressed and together, we photographed the large family groups on the sand. A short list of must-have groupings keeps this to about 20 minutes. Our shot list can help you build yours: https://wbastudio.com/blog/wedding-photo-shot-list-destination-wedding
Golden Hour Portraits
While guests enjoyed champagne, Sydney and Mike slipped away to the shoreline. These fifteen minutes are the most valuable of the day, because the light is warm and soft and the beach is at its most beautiful. We protect this window every time.
The Reception at Sunset
Their reception was set on the sand, with string lights overhead, a curved white bar, a dessert table and a live guitar band. The sky turned pink and purple while the dance floor filled, and their father-daughter dance happened as it was still glowing.
The Party
Once dinner and toasts were done, the dance floor stayed full under the string lights, and the night belonged to Sydney, Mike and their guests.
Planning Tips from This Timeline
Choose your ceremony time first. Build everything else backward from sunset.
Protect the fifteen golden hour minutes. If the schedule runs late, shorten something else.
Photograph family right after the ceremony. Everyone is already together, and it frees you for the party.
Decide on a first look early. It changes how you use the hour before the ceremony.
Leave buffer time. Overcast skies, delays and slow zippers happen. Sydney and Mike's ceremony was under soft cloud cover, and the light was beautiful anyway.
